Research a genre of your own choice and discuss which topics/issue it raises - Superhero Movies

The genre of film I selected is the rather successful and entertaining superhero genre. In recent times, the superhero genre has reached new heights of success, with Avengers Endgame making 2,790,200,000 dollars at the box office and dethroning 2009's Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time.

Considering these feats, I believe it is obvious that many find this genre to be lucrative and entertaining. As to why I enjoy this genre: First of all, I enjoy the fact that good always triumphs over evil, not because of the fact evil is concurred but the way that the defeat of an antagonist is achieved. For example, what around them can they utilise to defeat their foe? What weapon in their arsenal can they utilise in a strategic method to combat their enemies? You see, its the journey of defeating the villain , not the destination, though both are rather satisfying when seen together. It's moments like these that make people (like my father), enjoy these movies. Second of all, I enjoy the way the stories can reflect reality. For example, characters experiencing the loss of a family member or someone close to you and the effect of it. Examples of this can be found in many of the Spiderman films as the character is almost moulded by sorrow but, similarly to real life, the characters grow and learn from these troubling times.

Similarly also, heroes actions can cause tragedy in normal peoples lives and this could cause them to become antagonists without the hero's knowledge. An example of one occurrence of this can be found in serval Marvel films and it shows that actions have consequences.
Next, one thing I enjoy from this genre is the escapism achieved. The spectacles that the usage of special effects can create is incredible. The fact that someone's body can change in a bizarre way before your very eyes seems almost unbelievable and these fantasy and bizarre occurrences help us to enter their fictional world in a way, examples including the Incredible Hulk as a whole really.

Another positive factor I like in superhero films is the fact that hero's will save as many people as possible. Situations like these show that good heroes can't pick and choose people they like to save from a crowd, heroes must save as many people as possible which can lead to moral dilemmas and thus more character development. This is also similar to helping to avoid mass damage to an area. For example, a good hero wouldn't try and stop a small house with nobody inside from falling down over a skyscraper plummeting down like an avalanche. Good heroes don't pick favourites, they pick the best option, which is more commonly the harder choice.
Finally a good factor in the genre is that the characters have and show good relationships with one another which helps the characters feel more natural. They care about their friends and family which helps develop them outside of being superheroes. It's small moments such as the party scene in Age of Ultron that help make characters feel real and that's what I love about this genre.
